Hollister <br />Executive Director <br />Luke Sims, Community Development Directo~ <br />Cynthia Battenberg, Business Development Manager <br />Tim Ricard, Development Specialist <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE RECEIPT OF PERSONAL PROPERTY FROM THE <br />SAN LEANDRO AUTO MALL DEALERS ASSOCIATION AND TERMINATION OF THE <br />MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE SAN LEANDRO AUTO MALL <br />DEALERS ASSOCIATION AND THE SAN LEANDRO REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />DATED MAY 17, 2004. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the San Leandro Redevelopment Agency (Agency) approve the attached <br />resolution approving the Agency to accept ownership and maintenance of San Leandro Auto <br />Mall Dealer Association (SLAMDA) Monument Signs and terminate the Memorandum of <br />Understanding (MOU) dated May 17, 2004. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Analysis <br />On May 17, 2004 the Agency entered into an MOU with SLAMDA to assist the association and <br />further the goals of the Alameda County -City of San Leandro Redevelopment Project Area <br />(Joint Project Area). This MOU allowed the Agency to reimburse SLAMDA up to $33,000 for <br />the construction of two signs; one along I-880 and the other in the median of Marina Boulevard. <br />These signs were erected in 2004 and have served SLAMDA and the Joint Project Area well by <br />advertising the auto dealerships and the San Leandro Auto Mall as a whole. However, with <br />recent downturn in car sales and the loss of many of its members SLAMDA has found it <br />increasingly difficult to pay the annual cost of approximately $2,500 to insure the signs. <br />In addition to the cost of insurance, the signs require updating. The approximate cost to replace <br />the Buick, Pontiac, GMC and the Marina Square Luxury Auto Center signs with Mitsubishi, <br />
