Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br />10. ACTION ITEMS <br />Public comments are limited to 3 minutes per speaker per item, subject to adjustment by the <br />Mayor. <br />A. Report on Participation in Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Multi- <br />Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (provides an overview of the City's <br />participation in the Plan and review of mitigation strategies the City has identified for <br />future disasters). <br />Community Relations Representative Kathy Ornelas gave a PowerPoint presentation, <br />providing information on the City's need to adopt a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, and <br />the advantages to participating with ABAG on the development of a multi jurisdictional <br />plan. Ms. Ornelas described the types of natural disasters that would be addressed by <br />the Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, and the information available on <br />ABAG's website. A list of priorities is being established for mitigating the impacts of <br />future disasters, which San Leandro can accept or change based on its jurisdictional <br />needs. <br />Ms. Ornelas responded to questions from the Council. <br />Councilmember Prola expressed concern about the effects of liquefaction in areas of <br />San Leandro. <br />Councilmember Gregory pointed to the important role played by the faith-based <br />community during Hurricane Katrina. He suggested the City perform outreach to the <br />local faith-based community, and seek their help in providing assistance during a <br />disaster. <br />Mayor Santos suggested having disaster training for the Council. Ms. Ornelas indicated <br />that the Council will participate in a disaster exercise to be held at the new Senior <br />Center. She noted that agencies responsible for emergency shelter services have already <br />begun outreach to the faith community. Councilmember Gregory suggested that the <br />City could assist in this effort. <br />B. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken <br />No reportable action taken. <br />
