Marin County CA -January 2DD2 <br />In January, the Marin County Board of Supervisors <br />passed a living wage ordinance requiring County <br />service contractors -including non-profits - to pay a <br />living wage of at least $9.50 an hour, $10.75 if employer <br />paid health benefits are not included (7/06). Direct <br />County employees must also be paid at least this living <br />wage. In-Wome Support Services workers whose <br />agencies get County dollars must also be paid at least <br />$8.50 an hour, $9.75 if no benefits are provided (Marin <br />County Living Wage Coalition). <br />Oxnard CA -July 2DD2 <br />In July, the City Council of Oxnard adopted a living <br />wage policy requiring City service contractors with <br />contracts greater than $25,000 to pay a living wage of at <br />least $9.00 an hour, to be adjusted annually (the <br />ordinance includes planned adjustments as follows: at <br />least $9.25 an hour plus 32 hours of paid leave per year <br />as of July 2003; at least $10.59 an hour plus 64 hours of <br />paid leave per year as of July 2004; at least $12.22 an <br />hour plus 96 hours of paid leave per year as of July <br />2005)the rate as of Juiy 2005 was $12.22 as per the <br />original schedule. Currently the living wage is $12.88 <br />per hour (07/06). <br />Fairfax CA -August 2DD2 <br />In August 2002, the Town Council of Fairfax adopted a <br />living wage ordinance requiring certain service <br />contractors with city contracts greater than $10,000 and <br />their sub-contractors, as well as business with more <br />than ten employees receiving city subsidies greater than <br />$15,000, to pay a minimum hourly wage of $13.00 with <br />health benefits and $14.75 without. The wage applies to <br />full- and part-time employees of contractors and sub- <br />cortractors, as well as seasonal and temporary workers. <br />The~wage also applies to. City employees. The level will <br />be adjusted according to annual cost of living increases <br />as measured by the Consumer Price Index. Covered <br />#irms must remain neutral with respect to union <br />organizing. <br />Watsonville CA -September 2DD2 <br />In September, the Watsonville City Council enacted a <br />living wage law requiring firms that enter into city service <br />contracts (14 different services are delineated) to pay a <br />living wage to employees performing work under those <br />projects. The living wage is set at $12.43 an hour if the <br />employer provides health benefits and $13.56 an hour if <br />no benefits are provided (07/06), adjusted annually for <br />cost of living. The law also requires such firms to offer <br />these employees 10 compensated days off for sick <br />leave and/or vacation and includes additional worker <br />protections such as worker retention language (Santa <br />Cruz County Coalition for a Living Wage). <br />Ventura County CA -May 2D01 <br />In May the Ventura County Board of Supervisors <br />passed an ordinance requiring that all county <br />contractors and subcontractors pay workers employed <br />on county-financed projects a living wage of $9 with $2 <br />per hour in health care benefits. If no health benefits are <br />provided, the required wage rate is $11 an hour. (07/06) <br />The ordinance exempts in-home support workers, board <br />~ and care services and printing or copying services. <br />Richmond CA -October 2DD1 <br />In October, the Richmond City Council passed an <br />ordinance requiring that a living wage be paid by <br />businesses who are awarded city contracts worth over <br />$25,000, are recipients of at least $100,000 in public <br />subsidies, or have leases with the city and revenues <br />over $350,000. The living wage is set at $11.42 with <br />health benefits, $12.92 an hour without health benefits <br />(06/06), indexed annually.
