Among the key findings: significant <br />fall-off in business -from 30-80%; extreme difficulty accessing capitol; cost of conducting <br />business in the Bay Area and California; regulatory issues, particularly at the regional and <br />state levels; San Leandro is an excellent location for and supportive of their business growth <br />and success. <br />- Individual meetings with three commercial/industrial brokers to assess their evaluation of <br />San Leandro's competitive position in the current market: San Leandro has excellent <br />location and service advantages; cities are becoming more competitive in developing <br />business attraction programs; vacancy rates in San Leandro are at or below the average for <br />competing cities in the 880 corridor. <br />- A key goal of the industrial program is to secure cuttinb edge business growth opportunities <br />for San Leandro production companies. The Chamber has established afirst-stage <br />relationship with two organizations that train company management, and provide technical <br />development services to establish sustainable processes and products with a profitable <br />return on investment. These organizations assist companies to catch the fast-growing trend <br />in production requiring that they provide products that demonstrate, from parts to <br />production to end product, that the processes are carried out in an environmentally <br />sustainable manner. The near-term goal is to find several companies to participate in their <br />beta program. <br />4. ~ Crime Free Business Watch <br />- Prepared and delivered email broadcast invitation announcement for the Phase One training <br />program. <br />- Distributed Phase One training invitation flyers in the Adams area. <br />- Attended and supported Phase One training for five businesses was conducted by the San <br />Leandro Police Department, focusing on both management and employee participation in <br />secure site management, emergency contact management, active reporting to SLPD of street <br />activity and regular officer contact. <br />- Once the full training is complete for these companies, they will assist in bringing their <br />neighbor companies into the program to broaden its effectiveness and the potential for <br />cooperation on future industrial development initiatives. <br />5.
