CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
STAFF REPORT
DATE:
TO:
FROM:
BY:
February 16, 2010
Stephen Hollister, City Manager
Lianne Mazshall, Assistant City Manager ~...
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
is ~~
~~Stephen Hollister
City Manager
Kathy Ornelas, Community Relations Representative
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
MATTER OF REPORT ON THE STATUS OF THE LOCAL EMERGENCY DUE TO THE
THREAT TO THE PUBLIC HEALTH FROM THE H1N1 INFLUENZA VIRUS
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
On November 11, 2009, the City Council adopted Resolution 2009-153, which declared a local
emergency in San Leandro due to public health risk from the H1N1 Influenza epidemic, which is
widespread throughout Alameda County and California.
While the H1N1 vaccination clinic that had been scheduled in San Leandro by the Alameda
County Public Health Department has been cancelled, there is still the possibility that the City of
San Leandro may incur extraordinary expenses in addressing this public health risk, particulazly
in its support of the Alameda County Public Health Department's efforts to protect the
community.
San Leandro Municipal Code Section 3-4-124 requires that any declazation of a local emergency
in San Leandro must be reviewed by the City Council at each subsequent regularly scheduled
City Council meeting until the emergency has been terminated. Therefore, staff recommends
that the City Council, by motion, extend the Declaration of a Local Emergency until it is
reviewed at its next meeting.
CONCLUSION
Staff recommends that City Council, by motion, extend the Declaration of a Local Emergency
until its next regularly scheduled meeting.
