San Leandro Marina Wes McClure Boat launch
Permit Program Facts
• In June of 2009, the City Council approved the collection of boat launch fees
for the Wes McClure Boat Launch. The annual launch fee is $100 and the
daily fee is $10.
• The daily fees are deposited in an Iron Ranger collection box, which was
installed in June 2009. The total cost to purchase and install the Iron Ranger,
signs, and envelopes was $2516, which was recovered in the first 30 days of
operation.
• From July 7, 2009 to January 7, 2010 a total of $8340 was collected. This
includes 22 annual permits and 614 daily permits.
• On September 21, 2009, the City Council approved a $50 fine for boaters who
fail to obtain a launch permit. After several months of public education, staff
started issuing citations in January of this year. To date, staff has issued six
citations.
• Staff originally estimated annual revenue of $10,000 based on an average of
three boat launches per day. The current rate of collection of daily permits is
3.5 per day. The new projected annual revenue is $12,500, an increase of
25% percent over the original annual revenue estimate.
