permitted up to ten (10) working days' catastrophic leave. Leave under this section shall <br />become effective after all other paid leave is exhausted. During any period of catastrophic <br />illness leave, the employee shall receive compensation at the rate of sixty percent (60%) of <br />his/her regular base pay. <br />A minimum of one (1) year must elapse following the termination of the catastrophic illness <br />leave before an employee may be permitted further catastrophic illness leave. However, if <br />subsequent catastrophic illness occurs within a year following the termination of the previous <br />catastrophic illness leave, an employee may be permitted to use whatever accumulated paid <br />leave he/she has and then whatever catastrophic illness leave he/she was eligible for but did not <br />use. <br />The same principles concerning the administration of the sick leave benefit shall be used for <br />this benefit where applicable. <br />Section 37. Non-Discrimination <br />The City and the Union agree that there shall be no discrimination against .any employee <br />because of Union activities or because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital <br />status, disability, or sexual orientation defined by applicable Federal and State regulations. <br />Section 38. Professional Certification <br />Employees working in a full-time permanent position who are regularly assigned to the Water <br />Pollution Control Plant shall be reimbursed for obtaining or renewing job-required certificates. <br />For those eligible and required employees, the City agrees to continue to pay for the cost of <br />getting and maintaining apesticide/herbicide application certificate. <br />The City shall reimburse, permanent full-time Traffic Operations and Associate and Assistant <br />Engineers in the Engineering and Transportation Department, for the cost of obtaining and/or <br />renewing job required certificates while employed by the City. <br />The City agrees to pay the cost of written and medical examinations for those employees who <br />are required to obtain and maintain a Class B Driver's License. <br />Section 39. Standby Pay <br />A. Public Works Employ <br />Public Works employees who are assigned to standby duty to respond to emergencies, <br />service calls, shift coverage or lone operator support during their off shift hours, will be paid <br />at the rate of one (1) hour pay at the employee's straight time hourly rate for each normal <br />work day (commencing with the end of the regular scheduled shift). Employees who are <br />required to standby on regularly scheduled days off (i.e. a twenty-four (24) hour consecutive <br />period) shall receive a total of two (2) hours pay at the employee's regular hourly rate for <br />each day. Employees who are required to standby on a City holiday (i.e. a twenty-four (24) <br />hour consecutive period) shall receive a total of three (3) hours pay at the employee's <br />regular hourly rate for each holiday. <br />27 <br />
