MINUTES Page 10 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-April 5, 2010 <br />Vice Mayor Starosciak agreed with Councilmember Reed, commenting on the need to <br />discourage additional alcohol sales near the Ninth Grade Campus. She attended the first <br />session of the Citizens Police Academy, and the Downtown San Leandro Symposium. Vice <br />Mayor Starosciak commented on an email she received from Suzanne Pershing, requesting <br />that the Council adjourn its meeting in memory of Mary Green, who was a member of Arts <br />Council, a liaison between the Arts Council and San Leandro Art Association, and a docent at <br />the Library. The Arts Council proposed that the Art Hallway at the Main Library be named <br />the "Mary Green Galler}~' in her memory. <br />Councilmember Prola reported on his attendance at the following meetings and events: the <br />Shoreline Citizens Advisory Committee meeting; Leadership San Leandro Government Day; <br />the Washington Manor Little League parade; the California Nurses Association rally at San <br />Leandro Hospital; the Police Department promotion ceremony; the 20`h Anniversary of the <br />Special Districts; the Waste Management meeting at the transfer station; the Hispanic <br />Community Affairs Council meeting on education; the Port Aviation Committee meeting; the <br />Downtown San Leandro Symposium; the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee <br />(BPAC) meeting; San Leandro High School's Cesar Chavez Day celebration; the ribbon- <br />cutting of the new San Leandro High School library; and the Easter Egg Hunt at Marina Park. <br />Councilmember Prola commented that the Leadership San Leandro class was concerned <br />about the deterioration of the State's education system. <br />Councilmember Stephens reported that he attended the Downtown San Leandro Symposium, <br />and stated that he wished he'd had the opportunity to speak to the Leadership class regarding <br />the current state of education in California. <br />Councilmember Souza reported on her attendance at the following meetings and events: the <br />Police Department promotion ceremony; the Citizens Police Academy; the Washington <br />Manor Junior League parade; the BASSL meeting; and the Associated Community Action <br />Program (ACAP) meeting. She commented on the Bayfair Farmers Market, the Chicago <br />Blues Cafe building, and hopeful signs of economic recovery. Councilmember Souza <br />reported on her trip to the National League of Cities conference in Washington, D.C. with <br />Councihnembers Reed and Gregory. She commented that the group presented the City's <br />three projects to the federal legislators, Congressman Pete Stark, and Senators Barbara Boxer <br />and Dianne Feinstein. She stated that she felt the visits were very beneficial. <br />Councilmember Reed reported that she received a personal note from Congressman Pete <br />Stark, stating his support for the City's three projects. <br />Mayor Santos reported on his attendance at the following meetings and events: the <br />Washington Manor Junior League parade; the dedication of the new San Leandro High <br />School Library; the Easter Egg Hunt at Marina Park; a meeting at Senator Boxer's office to <br />discuss Community Assistance funding; a visit to a CNG (compressed natural gas) facility at <br />Altamont Pass; and a dedication in memory of Oakland Police Sergeant Daniel Sakai. <br />Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of Mary <br />Green; Marilyn Henze, the mother of Information Services Manager Rayan Fowler; and Jim <br />Gleich, Deputy General Manager of AC Transit; and former Councilmember Paul Nahm. <br />
