CITY COUNCIL REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />City Councilmembers report on their activities, including attendance at Intergovernmental <br />Agency meetings, conferences and seminars, and local events, and make brief announcements <br />on issues of concern. <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory reported that he attended the Alameda County Fire Commission <br />meeting, and received updates on the merger with Newark Fire Department, the East Bay <br />Regional Communication System (EBRCS), and Homeland Security. He reported that he <br />met with Mayor Akiba of Hiroshima, Japan, who is President Mayors for Peace <br />Councilmember Gregory announced the May 2nd event. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza reported that she also attended the Alameda County Fire Commission <br />meeting, and reported on the new Deputy Chief (former Newark Fire Chief), the EBRCS <br />presentation by former Fire Chief McCammon, and the possible bond measure. It was <br />reported that the participating cities would be charged $30-40 per radio per month, which is <br />potentially double what the City pays now. She stated that she wanted the City to be aware of <br />the increased cost, which would take effect beginning in 2014. Councilmember Souza <br />attended the adult volunteer luncheon, and a Floresta Baseball League game, in which her <br />grandson played. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens commented on the poor condition of streets. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola reported that he attended the CALICO ribbon cutting event; Floresta <br />Baseball League parade; the Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee meeting; <br />and the Mayors Community Budget meeting at the Main Library. He reported on the <br />meeting of the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District Board. He also reported that <br />he met with representatives from Kaiser regarding their proposed development, and he <br />conveyed to them concerns regarding traffic. Regarding RCV, Councilmember <br />Prola commented that once the decision had been made to move forward, it would have cost <br />the City significantly more not to use RCV. He commented that he has not received <br />objections from residents about RCV, but did hear objections from people from out of state. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Starosciak attended the meeting of the Alameda County Congestion Management <br />Agency (ACCMA) Board, and reported that the agency is still working on its Vehicle <br />Registration Fee measure, and will call for projects soon for the Safe Routes to School grant <br />program. She also attended the League of California Cities East Bay Division meeting, <br />reporting that a decision on Redevelopment is expected soon, and suggested that the City wait <br />until after May 4 to send its check. Vice Mayor Starosciak attended the Shoreline Cleanup, <br />and thanked Benny Lee for contacting all the Heron Bay board members and getting them to <br />agree to suspend towing of cars for the day. She requested that the City Council Rules and <br />Communications Committee consider alternative City Council email addresses, <br /> <br />
