MINUTES Page 11
City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-Apri119, 2010
District#(a~sanleandro.org, so residents can email their Councilmembers without having to
remember their names.
Councilmember Reed reported that she attended the adult volunteer luncheon, and the
Chamber Government Affairs Committee meeting. She announced that the Senior
Community Center sign has been erected. She reiterated her request from the last meeting to
get an opinion on what effect Proposition 16, the Taxpayers Right to Vote Act, would have on
the City. Councilmember Reed commented that she views her service on the Council as a
public service. She noted that, in the performance of this service, members of the Council are
sometimes talked about and criticized. Councilmember Reed expressed concern regarding
comments made on blogs about Councilmembers that are very disturbing. She hoped that the
Council could focus on its service to the community, and not be distracted by the politics of
the upcoming election.
Mayor Santos concurred with Councilmember Reed's remarks, commenting on a lengthy,
late-night phone call, and on the criticism he received from the caller. He commented that the
League of California Cities and the Sierra Club both oppose Prop. 16. Mayor Santos reported
that he attended the Alameda County Mayors Conference meeting; the Economic
Development Alliance meeting; the East Bay Dischargers Authority (EBDA) meeting; the
Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority (ACTIA) meeting; and the adult
volunteer luncheon. He commented on the parking situation at Heron Bay, and on recent
news articles. Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in
memory of Randolph Guzman, a marine captain who died in the Oklahoma City bombing on
Apri119, 1995.
12. ADJOURN
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m., in memory of Marine Captain Randolph Guzman.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED:
MARIAN HANDA
City Clerk of the City of San Leandro
