While it may cause some discomfort for those
of us in the senior citizen category, it will (if the young are trained correctly and if all the
hopes about new jobs, etc. near the line actually transpire) be a positive step for future
generations who won't have to live in the polluted world we have given them.
I also feel you are attempting to facilitate the many problems with this plan.
I have several specific problems and they are as follows:
1. Many in our neighborhood shop at the southern portion of Washington Ave.
Personally I use 143`d to get there or as an alternative 139th, both of which I believe are
blocked by BRT. If you drive southerly on E 14th you have to go to Halcyon to get a
straight route to Washington. There should be some alternative.
2. While this may not be a problem for BRT, what we really need are feeder lines to E
14th. San Leandro is a bedroom community and has a large senior population who cannot
get to E. 14th to utilize BRT. Is there some way this can be solved.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Gerry Mellen
cc: Kathlene Livermore
Ursula Reed
