Hollister <br />City Manager <br />BY: Ken Joseph, City Engineer <br />Engineering and Transportation Departmen <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND CALLING FOR BIDS " <br />FOR THE PARK PATHWAYS (WW) PROJECT, PROJECT NUMBER 10-150-38-306. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />This project provides for the rehabilitation of the asphalt concrete pathways in several City <br />parks. <br />Staff recommends approval of the plans and specifications and call for bids for the subject <br />project. <br />BACKGROUND <br />On March 2, 2009, the City received notice from the East Bay Regional Parks District (EBRPD) <br />of our eligibility for $3,740,998 in Measure WW Park Bond funds. The funds are for the <br />acquisition and development of neighborhood, community, and regional parks and recreation <br />lands and facilities. The subject project will be the first to be undertaken with these funds. <br />$500,000 will be used to rehabilitate park pathways. <br />ANALYSIS <br />The project will rehabilitate the asphalt concrete pathways at up to eight City parks depending <br />upon bid results. These parks include: Marina Park; Washington Manor Park; Halcyon Park; <br />McCartney Park; Stenzel Park; Memorial Park; Warden Park; and Thrasher Park. Slurry seal, an <br />asphalt emulsion, will be used to treat pathways that are in fairly good condition. For severely <br />distressed pathways, 4-inch thick asphalt concrete sections will be replaced and bounded with <br />redwood header boards to protect pathway edges. In addition, neighboring tree roots will be <br />pruned to reduce future pathway damage. The project also includes installation of Americans <br />
