Report on Airport Noise Insulation Program
William Schock reported that discussions with the Port of Oakland for them to continue
funding the program are progressing well. Staff met last week with Port representatives who
say they are very close to bringing a proposed agreement to the Port Board of Directors for
consideration. The agreement would then, in turn, be brought to the Committee and ultimately
the City Council for consideration. The proposed agreement would recommend funding the
insulation program for the waiting 71 homes, and construction could proceed this summer.
The Port further would propose that a sunset to the program be set for December 31, 2015 to
insulate 46 more homes, which would complete the 200-home project.
Recommendations:
None
Z. Report from the Port of Oakland Regarding a New Air Traffic Control Tower Project
Tony Godkin from the Port of Oakland gave a report on the FAA's project to build a new air
traffic control tower on airport property. Construction is expected to begin in August and be
completed in about 2 years. Once the FAA has commissioned the operation of the new tower
(which could take about a year), the existing North Field Tower will be demolished. The
decision as to what to do with the existing South Field Tower will take further study.
