Rhythm <br />Historic phot <br />provide examples <br />rhyth~ <br />Rhythm. Downtown areas are char- <br />acterized by a lively, compact archi- <br />tecture and site design. <br />A good rhythm depends on: <br />- narrow storefront widths, <br />- display windows, <br />- building entries, <br />- building heights, <br />- facade elements, <br />- active ground level uses, <br />- street furnishings, <br />- trees, <br />- public amenities. <br />These elements work together to <br />create a distinctive and satisfying <br />rhythm. <br />They are described individually <br />in the following pages, but attention <br />should be paid to their overall com- <br />position to contribute to the rhythm <br />of the downtown. <br />San Leandro Downtown Plan & Urban Design Guidelines October 2000 page G5 <br />Narraw, varied storefronts provide an interesting pedestrian <br />environment. <br />Special paving, unique signs and <br />lightposts and trees create a rich <br />rhythm. <br />
