Service and Loading Areas This service area is clean, avell lit and includes simple planter boxes which improve the parking lot. Service areas. All service and load- ing areas and trash/recycling areas should be screened from the street, and from general view when ever possible. Ideally, these areas should be behind buildings and not adjacent to the main street. Trash/recycling areas should be entirely enclosed. Loading/service/trash areas should be screened from the street by a fence/wall, landscaping or a combination of the two. Screening structures should gen- erally be simple. Long stretches of screening should be avoided. If long screens are necessary, they should be articulated with architectural detail and/or special landscape elements. Materials and colors used in struc- tural screening elements should re- spond to surrounding buildings so the area will be incorporated into the site design. Selected landscape ma- terials should be repeated from the surrounding area (parking lot or street). Service areas should be ad- equately lit for night use. Adequate maintenance of .these areas is essential. phis includes regu- lar trash pick-up, as well as periodic cleaning of pavement and dumpsters.
