COPS IN SCHOOLS GRANT <br />MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING <br />This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is entered into by'the San Leandro <br />Unified School District, the San Lorenzo Unified School District and the San Leandro <br />Police Department for the purpose of cooperatively expanding the School Resource <br />Officer (SRO) Program into the middle and elementary schools within the City of San <br />Leandro. <br />Mission statement: Enter into a partnership with the San Leandro Unified <br />School District, the San Lorenzo Unified School District and the San Leandro Police <br />Department to have a police officer assigned to the middle and elementary schools. This <br />School Resource Officer would be available to collaborate and respond to any safety <br />issue on campus. This position would have the responsibility of investigating criminal <br />activity, serving on the Student Attendance Review Board, assisting in development of <br />school site safety plans, and instructing faculty on law enforcement topics. <br />Description of general duties: The School Resource Officer's primary duty will <br />be to investigate criminal activity on school campuses. The position will also be <br />available to assist school administrators with district-related policy violations, mentor <br />students, counsel families, train staff on specific topics, and act as a resource to school <br />administrators. It is anticipated that the presence of the police officer will help reduce <br />problems associated with truancy. <br />Desired outcomes: The desired outcome is for the School Resource Officer to be <br />familiar with school district policies and procedures so that law enforcement officers, <br />school officials and students can work together to resolve any issues involving students. <br />MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING PAGE I <br />COPS IN SCHOOLS GRANT <br />
