IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2001- 69 (1123/2040) <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />URGING CALIFORNIA UTILITIES, LEGISLATORS AND REGULATORY <br />AGENCIES TO PROVIDE ADVANCE NOTICE TO UTILIITY CUSTOMERS <br />PRIOR TO POWER REDUCTIONS <br />WHEREAS, it is recognized that California faces unprecedented energy challenges and severe <br />electricity supply shortages; and <br />WHEREAS, utility users throughout San Leandro and the state are taking aggressive measures <br />to reduce electricity use through conservation measures recommended by Governor Gray Davis, the <br />California Energy Commission, Pacific Gas & Electric, and others; and <br />WHEREAS, because of unannounced rolling blackouts, local businesses and industries of all <br />sizes are suffering significant financial losses resulting from the interruption of production processes; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, if these same businesses and industries had advance notice of an impending <br />blackout, measures could be taken to protect production, save. data, minimize impacts to services, and <br />preserve public safety. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as follows: <br />That the City of San Leandro strongly urges Governor Gray Davis, the California Energy <br />Commission, the California Public Utilities Commission, Pacific Gas & Electric, and all responsible <br />parties to mandate and implement a system which would provide reasonable advance notice to all <br />Pacific Gas & Electric customers prior to initiation of electricity blackouts throughout the state of <br />California. <br />Introduced by Council Member Loeffler and passed and adopted this 21St <br />day of May 2001 by the following called vote: <br />Members of the Council: <br />AYES: Council Members Glaze, Grant, Loeffler, Santos; Mayor Young ( 5 ) <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Council Members Galvan, Nardine <br />Attest: ~~ ~ ~t~4,~1~ ~ <br />Gay e Pete en, City Clerk <br />( 0 ) <br />( 2 ) <br />
