OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2001- 19 9 (1219 / 1002 ) <br />RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE BAY AREA RAPID TRANSIT (BART) <br />DISTRICT'S APPLICATION FOR A CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION (CALTRANS) ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE GRANT TO STUDY <br />ACCESS ISSUES TO THE SAN LEANDRO BART STATION <br />WHEREAS, BART is currently conducting station access plans at fourteen (14) <br />BART stations including San Leandro; and <br />WHEREAS, these access plans will explore how residents currently use BART and <br />what types of access improvements could facilitate the use of BART by all residents; and <br />WHEREAS, the access plans will consider use of all modes to and from the BART <br />station, including transit, bicycle, pedestrian, shuttles and carpools; and <br />WHEREAS, Caltrans has issued a call for projects for planning grants to engage low <br />income and minority communities (called "Environmental Justice" or "EJ" communities) in <br />transportation planning processes; and <br />WHEREAS, BART intends to apply for these Caltrans EJ planning funds to expand its <br />outreach to ensure the participation of residents of identified EJ communities in its access <br />planning efforts; and <br />WHEREAS, there is an identified EJ community within aone-mile radius of the San <br />Leandro BART Station, specifically west of the station; <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San Leandro <br />supports the BART District's application for a Caltrans Environmental Justice grant to study <br />access issues to the San Leandro BART Station. <br />
