Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - January 16, 1996 Page - 3 -
•
5. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Public Comments are limited to 5 minutes per person. The public is
invited to make any comments related to Agenda items (including San
Leandro Redevelopment Agency, San Leandro Parking Authority, and San
Leandro Industrial Development Authority) or other items of public
interest at this time. Comments regarding Public Hearing items will
be heard during the Public Hearing portion of the Agenda.
A. Ann Hague, San Rafael Street, thanked the City Manager and City
Council for their foresight in working to keep Macy's in San
Leandro. She said she is concerned that Fresh Choice may leave
Bayfair and said she would appreciate any effort that can be made
to keep them. She also thanked the Council for the retention of
Costco and bringing five auto dealerships to town. She said she
has been saddened by the negative articles in the newspaper. She
said the City Council and City Manager's jobs are not easy, and
she admires their intelligence, independent thinking, and
differences. Council meetings are the platform at which to
express issues. She said the newspapers display a false image.
She thanked Council Members Perry, Kerr, and Myers for their
wealth of experience and knowledge and devoted years of service.
She said all should resolve to work diligently for the common
good of our City.
B. Dana Johnson, 343 Farrelly Drive, said his comments at the
January 12 Work Session regarding the City Manager were meant as
praise. He said there would be problems if the City Manager were
not aggressive and there were rubber - stampers on the Council. He
said Council Member Perry was concerned about the ice rink not
making a profit, yet she has voted for many projects that cost a
lot of money. He said the skating rink should be considered like
a downtown park for the use of all residents and noted parks
don't make profits. He noted 10,000 people used the rink.
C. Darlene Evans, 361 Bristol Boulevard, said citizens should be
able to access information about the City through the Community
Library computer instead of having to go to departments to obtain
information. She said the library computer input is backlogged.
