Year of the Youth Program.
E. Update on School Bond.
6. CITY COUNCIL /SCHOOL BOARD COMMENTS
A. Council Member Loeffler said he hopes the next meeting is not so
many years away. He said shared meetings can be used to explore
common issues and to determine shared resources and facilities.
The Council and School Board need an ongoing dialog and need to
be creative since they are not getting the money needed from
Sacramento or Washington. A team of 14 can better serve the
village.
B. School Superintendent Himmelberg said the recent action the Board
took to further support DARE shows the strength and relationship
the School District has with the City. DARE is a model of
cooperation with the City along with gang awareness, disaster
planning and training, after - school recreation, the reading
program, and playground facilities.
C. Board Member McPhee said the City's participation in the Academy
Program at San Leandro High School shows amazing results. He
said there is an uncommonly good opportunity to get a matching
grant from the State for the bond issue, and only another 5% of
voter approval is needed. He said he thinks the same level of
support will be enjoyed whenever the bond is on the ballot again.
D. Council Member Young said, as a new City Council Member, she
appreciated the opportunity to meet with the School Board.
E. Board President Holcomb said she thinks this needs to be an
annual event, and it seems to be an appropriate time since the
District and the City are both putting budgets together. She
said she hopes this tradition will continue.
F. Mayor Corbett said there was consensus on an annual joint
meeting.
