He said more should be done to create public awareness <br /> because people don't understand it. <br /> Council Member Glaze said the Cherry Festival was outstanding and the <br /> library was an excellent location. <br /> Council Member Glaze noted next year is the City's 125th anniversary <br /> and said the Library- Historical Commission should look into a special <br /> event. <br /> Council Member Glaze noted former Council Member Kerr will be <br /> undergoing surgery on June 10th. <br /> Council Member Glaze asked that the last two seats in the Lecture Hall <br /> be removed to provide accessibility for wheelchairs. <br /> E. Council Member Lothrop also commended staff for the Cherry Festival. <br /> She noted the same concerns regarding Spare the Air Day. <br /> Council Member Lothrop said she is very supportive of remembering the <br /> many senior citizens who need access. <br /> F. Mayor Corbett said the Cherry Festival was awesome and thanked staff. <br /> Mayor Corbett noted the Carpe Diem fund raiser raised its $130,000 goal <br /> to paint San Leandro High School. She said this was a great community <br /> event. <br /> Mayor Corbett requested that a letter from James L. Witt, Director of <br /> FEMA, regarding the City's disaster preparedness programs, be noted for <br /> the record, particularly the first paragraph, which read: "The City of <br /> San Leandro, California, <br /> exemplifies a commitment to mitigation that is unmatched in this <br /> country. Your efforts and those of the City Council in San Leandro <br /> should be recognized for the model they serve in reducing hazards. <br /> Therefore, I am awarding the Federal Emergency Management Agency's <br /> (FEMA) Outstanding Public Service Aware to the City of San Leandro." <br /> She thanked everyone involved for a job well done. <br />
