Economic
Development Coordinator Nanci Klein presented a staff report on
proposed options for the ice rink or other holiday activities. She
noted the ice rink had been included in the current fiscal year
budget. She also noted the proposed contract had a termination
clause and payment schedule included, in case of cancellation. She
said staff is asking for Council direction on use of the funds for
holiday events, decorations, or an ice rink.
Upon Council request, staff clarified the time line for terminating
the contract and payment options. Mayor Corbett said the time line
could give staff time to raise funds to defray the costs. It was
noted that last year the project began late; and, therefore, impacted
the fund - raising ability. Vice Mayor Polvorosa noted that over 1,000
children used the rink last year for free, and this was a great
benefit to the community.
