• Widen Washington Avenue right -of -way between Anza Way an_d San Leandro
Boulevard from 65 to 80 feet - This widening would make Washington Avenue a
• candidate to be a north -south corridor.
• Widen Williams Street between Doolittle Drive and Interstate 880 ri ght -of -way from 60
to 66 feet - This widening would improve Williams Street's candidacy to be an east -
west bike corridor
• Shift State Highway Route 185 from East 14th Street to San Leandro Boulevard
between the intersection of these two streets and the North City Limits - This change of
jurisdiction might affect the maintenance of the existing bike lanes on San Leandro
Boulevard.
• Install raised median and reduce to two travel lanes with curbside parking on East 14th
Street from Chumalia Street to Durant Avenue - This is not part of the Master Plan and
has not been approved. Striping plans for this project show adequate widths for bike
lanes; however, there would be interruptions at some blocks, and how it would connect
into Oakland is uncertain.
Two bikeway projects are proposed among existing plans. The Draft San Leandro Park
Master Plan proposes to build a separate right -of -way bike path along the BART line in San
Leandro. The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) has ongoing plans to
consolidate an around- the -bay bicycle /pedestrian trails system known as the Bay Trail. In San
Leandro, the Bay Trail would be designated along the shoreline, where intermittent trails
already exist.
Existing plans of adjacent jurisdictions were also reviewed through the bike maps of Alameda
County and the City of Oakland. The maps are out -dated and do not distinctly show the
existing bikeways by location or classification. Both Alameda County and the City of Oakland
are currently updating their bike plans.
J.4 Existing Bikeway Standards
Bikeway Standards
As part of the inventory, existing bikeway segments were checked to determine if they meet
Caltrans standards. The standards are given in Chapter 1000 of Caltrans' Highway Design
4
