PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> • San Leandro resident Sara Mestas addressed the committee in <br /> support of keeping crossing guards. She handed the mayor almost <br /> 100 letters from San Leandro citizens wanting crossing guards. <br /> Providing a brief overview of various ways funding could be achieved, <br /> Ms. Mestas added that the City and district have a moral obligation to <br /> protect children and urged them to work together to get this in place. <br /> • Martin Capron, President of the San Leandro Sports Foundation, <br /> expressed his excitement on the prospects of renovating Burrell Field <br /> and the high school pools through the District facilities bond. He <br /> stated that with the help of their group of passionate citizens, San <br /> Leandro schools will be improved for the betterment of the community <br /> and that will translate into a better environment for our businesses as <br /> well. <br /> 7. COMMITTEE COMMENTS <br /> • Mayor Santos stated that, contrary to public perception that the City <br /> could be doing more to generate funding, the City is making every <br /> effort to seek funding from the state and federal government; however, <br /> this can be a very difficult task and the reality is that if we want these <br /> programs, we have to find local funding. <br /> 8.
