Councilmember Starosciak <br /> recalled Councilmember Stephens' idea of having a non - profit organization operate the <br /> Senior Center, and she commented that Spectrum Community Services is in need of a facility, <br /> and may be interested in running the kitchen at the Senior Center. She requested that <br /> tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of Eleanor Ahern, mother of Alameda County <br /> Sheriff Greg Ahern; and Larry Gordon Albright, a retired police lieutenant who served the <br /> San Leandro Police Department for 30 years, and who coached Crusaders football. <br /> Councilmember Prola stated that he hoped the Council would consider a resolution <br /> supporting Measure M, the sports facilities bond measure on the November ballot. He <br /> reported on the meeting of the Oakland Airport Community Noise Forum, and stated that he <br /> missed the August meeting of the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District Board due <br /> to vacation. Councilmember Prola stated that he and his wife plan to volunteer for the <br /> KaBOOM! Build Day for Toyon Park. He attended the following: August 22 " National <br /> Night Out; Congressman Stark's Town Hall meeting; Alameda County Public Works meeting <br /> regarding the trees along San Leandro Creek; and the August 30 meeting on Ranked Choice <br /> Voting at the Registrar of Voters. He attended the recent Mulford Gardens Improvement <br /> Association meeting, and commented on the misinformation about the shoreline development <br /> on www.savethemarina.com. Councilmember Prola commented on an AC Transit District <br /> resolution opposing AB 23, and stated that he would like to see the Council consider a similar <br /> resolution. <br /> Councilmember Souza reported on the upcoming presentations on Ranked Choice Voting at <br /> the Halcyon Foothill Homeowners Association on September 15, the Manor Branch Library <br /> on September 18, and the All Saints Neighborhood Center on September 29. She commented <br /> on the importance of helping the voters understand how and when their second choice counts. <br /> Councilmember Souza commented on the successful Library summer reading program and <br /> event. She attended the meeting of the Business Association of South San Leandro regarding <br /> the East 14 Street medians; the Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee <br /> meeting regarding Measure Z; and National Night Out. Councilmember Souza remarked that <br /> the Toyon Park playground will be the third KaBOOM! park she has worked on. She stated <br /> that she would like the City to begin communicating its goal on crossing guards to the San <br /> Leandro Unified School District, and the need to work toward a solution. <br /> Mayor Santos stated he is recommending sending to the Business and Housing Development <br /> Committee a robust business attraction, retention, marketing and branding program. He <br /> commented on the need to encourage the election of Latino and Asian leaders. Mayor Santos <br /> reported on meetings of the East Bay Dischargers Authority and StopWaste.org. He also <br /> attended the Alameda County Public Works meeting regarding trees in San Leandro Creek, <br /> and Congressman Stark's Town Hall meeting. Mayor Santos commented on the Council's <br /> Guidelines for Councilmember Correspondence, and stated that he would like the Guidelines <br /> referred to the City Council Rules and Communications Committee for review. <br /> Mr. Hollister elaborated on Mayor Santos' statement regarding the business attraction, <br /> retention, marketing and branding program. City staff has had recent meetings about such a <br /> program with the Chamber of Commerce and other business interests. He expressed <br />
