No one would raise an eyebrow if you
suggest this is a joke. The answer, however, is a bright San Leandro restaurant with a Deco look.
The service is no- frills: You stand in line and place your order and your food is brought to your
table.
However, when queuing up, you'll spot a sign noting that the beef is grass -fed and grain- finished
meat from BN Ranch in Bolinas.
The burger menu features a build -it- yourself option, starting with a 6 1/2 -ounce patty and adding
cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, pepper Jack, Swiss, American or blue, each 75 cents), sauteed
onions, mushrooms or jalapenos (each 75 cents) or bacon or avocado (each $1).
Combos, such as the MBA ($6.95, with mushrooms, bacon and avocado) are also available at the
burger spot, which restaurateur Michael Wiesner - he also has Paradiso in San Leandro and
Paradise Grill and BBQ in Castro Valley - opened in December.
And, of course, getting your burger cooked to order is rare at this price. The kitchen pays attention,
so you can tell, for example, the difference in pinkness between medium rare and rare.
Sides include a generous serving of french fries ($1.95), sweet potato fries ($3.5o) or onion rings
($3).
Non -beef options include the Fun -Guy ($5.95), a grilled portobello mushroom with roasted
peppers and pesto on a whole wheat bun, as well as several chicken sandwich choices such as the
Shroomer ($6.5o), with sauteed mushrooms.
Boulevard Burger: 1027 MacArthur Blvd., San Leandro.
