LEA NI
Gek-Pc San Leandro Chamber of Commerce
f j
Memorandum
. nFR OF CO`
October 15, 2010
To: Community Development Department, City of San Leandro
Attn: Cynthia Battenberg, Business Development Manager
From: David P. Johnson, President/CEO
Subject: Business Development Contract - Industrial Program — 10 -11 — 1st Quarter Report
Background
The San Leandro Chamber of Commerce has a long- standing strong and productive partnership with the City to
carry our business support and development work.
One key element of this work is the Industrial Program, established in February 2009, creating five industrial
neighborhoods in order to determine company service needs so that our companies stay and grow here, and,
working together with the businesses, strengthen each area to be competitive in attracting and growing new
business opportunities. Key issues discovered included strengthening local sourcing opportunities, employment
and training, safety and security and attracting new technology companies.
Mission
To grow and sustain a competitive San Leandro industrial economy for the 21 century through the retention
and attraction of companies that can take advantage of the city's many assets.
Strategy
1. Maintain and promote San Leandro's strength as an economy representing a diverse cross - section of
industry types and employment opportunities.
2. Supporting and promoting the successful occupancy of existing commercial, industrial and retail
businesses as well as the growth and/or redevelopment of those and other businesses and properties.
3. Developing and implementing a strategy to support the attraction and growth of key emerging industries
and markets that reflect both green and sustainable enterprises as well as those companies that will
benefit from San Leandro's key location advantages.
4. Active participation as a partner with the City in the East Bay Green Corridor in support of
environmentally sound initiatives for the benefit of the businesses and residents of San Leandro,
including the support of new and emerging sustainable industries.
San Leandro Chamber of Commerce — 10 -11 City Contract — Industrial Program — 1st Quarter Report Page 1
