CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
STAFF REPORT
Date: December 14, 2010 •
To: Stephen L. Hollister, City Manager
From: Uchenna Udemezue, P.E., Director
Engineering and Transportation Department
By: Keith R. Cooke, P.E., Principal Engineer 41
Reh -Lin N. Chen, P.E., Senior Transportation Engineer re
Subject: East 14 Street Striping and Pedestrian Improvements Project —
Summary of Neighborhood Meeting and Questionnaire
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
The Engineering and Transportation Department has conducted a neighborhood meeting and
collected input from community members regarding the East 14 Street Striping and Pedestrian
Improvement project to address any remaining comments and questions prior to construction.
This memo summarizes the results of the meeting and the comments received.
This report is for information only, and no action is required.
BACKGROUND
The East 14 Street Striping and Pedestrian Improvement project is being undertaken in response
to community concerns about side - street access, pedestrian safety, and traffic congestion at the
East 14 Street/Dutton Avenue intersection and the northern portion of East 14 Street. The
planned construction calls for one southbound and two northbound travel lanes on East 14
Street between Hays Street and Georgia Way and highlighted crosswalks.
Numerous community meetings were conducted from September 2004 to April 2006 to garner
input. This community process allowed area residents and businesses to determine the best
solution to their concerns. City Council approved the proposed striping plan in 2006. After an
extended design and review by Caltrans, the project is ready to start construction. However, at
Council's request, additional outreach efforts were initiated to inform residents of the impending
project, potential impacts of AC Transits BRT project, and address any remaining questions or
comments.
