•
o f SAN , East 14 Street Striping and Pedestrian
A Improvements Project
"c Neighborhood Meeting and Comments
CORP°RA -r o' 6 November 16, 2010 — 6:30 p.m.
Helen Lawrence South Offices Conference Room
999 East 14` Street
You are cordially invited to a neighborhood meeting on Tuesday, November 16 to update the community
regarding this project before construction commences. The plan is to restripe East 14' Street between Hays
Street and Georgia Way resulting in one southbound and two northbound travel lanes. The roadway
configuration on East 14' Street north of Georgia Way will remain the same for the time being.
The project is in response to community concerns about side- street access, pedestrian safety, and congestion at
the East I4 Street /Dutton Avenue intersection. Numerous community meetings were conducted from
September 2004 to April 2006. This community outreach allowed area residents and businesses to determine
the best solution to their concerns: City Council approved the project plan in 2006. After an extended design
and review process by Caltrans, the City of San Leandro is ready to start the project. However, we want to
update the public about the project and address any questions and comments.
Given that the project area is too large to be shown on letter sized paper, the attached plans reflect a portion of
the project area showing typical sections on East 14 Street from north of Georgia Way and south of Dutton
Avenue. Plan 41 is the existing condition and Plan #2 shows the condition after this project is completed.
As many of you know, AC Transit's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is continuing to go through the planning
stages. If it moves forward, it will occur after 2015, and its proposed dedicated bus lanes on East 14' Street
between Georgia Way and the Oakland/San Leandro City limits are compatible with the City's project. Please
see Plan #3 showing the BRT and City projects combined.
•
All of these plans may be accessed online at the City of San Leandro's website. Go to
http : / /www.sanleandro.org /depts/ transit /proiect/currproi2010.asp. You may also view the plans at City Hall.
Displays are available for viewing from October 28 to November 23. They are located in the hallway adjacent
to the Engineering and Transportation Department. These displays will also be shown at the November 1 6 i11
neighborhood meeting.
After reviewing the plans, please complete the enclosed form to address your questions and continents and
return it by November 23, 2010 by mail, fax, or at the. neighborhood meeting. You may also complete this
survey online at http: / /www.sanl eandro .org /depts /transiUswveys /q and_c.asp.
