MINUTES Page I I <br /> City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting — December 20, 2010 <br /> Councilmember Stephens commented on a few of the many community leaders in the <br /> audience, and on the quality and caring nature of the people of San Leandro. Councilmember <br /> Stephens stated that San Leandro is a great community, and there is no other place like it in <br /> the world. He thanked everyone for making San Leandro such a great place. <br /> Councilmember Souza reported that she attended the Alameda County Fire Commission <br /> meeting and the Senior Community Center dedication. She thanked Councilmember Stephens <br /> for his wisdom and advice, and for his dedicated service on the Council. Councilmember <br /> Souza commented on Mayor Santos' many contributions. particularly his tireless efforts on <br /> airport noise issues, and she expressed appreciation for his many years of service to the <br /> community. <br /> Councilmember Gregory reported that he attended the reception for new San Leandro School <br /> Board Trustees; met Jill Replogle editor of SanLeandroPatch.com; attended the Alameda <br /> County Fire Commission meeting; and attended the farewell reception for retiring Alameda <br /> County Supervisor Alice Lai - Bitker. Councilmember Gregory commented that he has <br /> watched and learned from Councilmember Stephens and Mayor Santos, and hoped they <br /> would continue to be resources. <br /> Mayor Santos commented on his work with Francois Gallo and NACSL to get sound <br /> insulation installed in four local schools. He noted San Leandro's rich history and diversity, <br /> and commented on the need for even more diversity on the City Council and School Board. <br /> He thanked the Marina Faire Homeowners Association and the Associated Homeowners of <br /> San Leandro for their support. Mayor Santos recalled that it was the Eastshore Homeowners <br /> Association that began the movement toward the City's change to a directly- elected mayor. <br /> Mayor Santos stated that he and Councilmember Stephens leave the City in good shape. He <br /> thanked Melitta, his wife of 55 years, and his children for their love and support. Mayor <br /> Santos spoke regarding the benefits of unions and of collective bargaining, and need for <br /> workers to come together to protect their rights. He concluded by urging everyone who lives <br /> or works in San Leandro to be proud of the city, and to contribute to the community. <br /> 12. INSTALLATION OF NEW CITY COUNCILMEMBERS <br /> District 1 City Councilmember -elect Michael Gregory took his Oath of Office administered <br /> by the Honorable Ellen Corbett, District 10 State Senator. <br /> District 3 City Councilmember -elect Diana Souza took her Oath of Office administered by the <br /> Honorable C. Richard Bartalini, retired Alameda County Superior Court Judge. <br /> District 5 City Councilmember -elect Pauline Cutter took her Oath of Office administered by <br /> Alameda County Supervisor -elect Wilma Chan. <br /> Mayor -elect Stephen H. Cassidy took his Oath of Office administered by Senator Corbett. <br />
