2. Discussion regarding the Development of San Leandro Branding and Marketing Strategy <br /> City Manager Hollister provided the Committee a brief introduction to the proposed marketing <br /> strategy explaining that the City has been working with the Chamber of Commerce and the Auto <br /> Mall Dealers Association to create a marketing campaign to promote San Leandro businesses. <br /> Business Development Manager Battenberg explained the importance of identifying and creating <br /> a San Leandro brand which is the foundation of a successful marketing campaign (see attached <br /> memo). Battenberg explained in order to identify and create our San Leandro brand a working <br /> group of 15 to 20 members who will represent various business interests will be formed. <br /> Battenberg recommended that The Placemaking Group be retained to facilitate the business <br /> working group in developing a Branding Blueprint and a Marketing Communications Plan. <br /> Dennis Erokan, President, The Placemaking Group, provided the Committee with a brief <br /> presentation of the steps his firm would take in order to create a successful branding and <br /> marketing strategy. <br /> The Committee discussed the branding and marketing process and expressed their desire to have <br /> new members of the community represented within the working group. After extensive <br /> discussion, the Committee recommended that the business working group include at least one <br /> member from each Council District and a maximum of five Chamber of Commerce members. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> The Committee approved the City Manager to enter into a consulting services agreement <br /> with The Placemaking Group with a cost not to exceed 510,000 for facilitation of a business <br /> working group and the development of a Branding and Marketing Strategy. Additionally, <br /> the Committee recommended formation of a working group to provide input on <br /> development of the strategy with no more than five members representing the Chamber of <br /> Commerce. <br /> 3. Update on the City's Marketing Activities - San Leandro We Want You Here! <br /> Business Development Manager Battenberg shared the recently completed brochure and slogan <br /> San Leandro We Want You Here! Battenberg explained that this marketing tool would be used <br /> to inform local businesses of business incentives and assistance available to them and to recruit <br /> new businesses to San Leandro. This slogan will also be used on the Community Development <br /> website pages in the future as part of the planned enhancement to these pages. <br /> The Committee made positive comments regarding the brochure and the high quality <br /> photography. They recommended adding additional information regarding the city's proximity to <br /> the Oakland airport. <br /> 4. Update on Development Projects <br /> a. Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory: Business Development Manager Battenberg explained <br /> that a request for qualifications has been released by the Lawrence Berkeley National <br /> Laboratory for development sites with the capacity for 2,000,000 ft.' of office located <br /> within 20 -25 minutes of the Berkeley campus.
