Project Prioritization for Federal Funding 2 February 7, 2011
Regional Projects
The following are regional projects that warrant consideration.
East Bay Regional Communications System (regional effort between Alameda and Contra
Costa Counties for expanded communications in the event of an emergency) - S500,000 (offset
costs of compatible radios) requested; no previous allocation.
East Bay Greenway Project (Twelve mile project passing through four jurisdictions, running
along the BART elevated tracks, total project cost is $32 million; San Leandro's portion is $11
million) - S 11 million requested.
Other Federal Funding Considerations
COPS Grant Round 3 — It is unknown at this time if funding will be available, however, it is
proposed that a Safe Schools /Intervention Program is created between the City, Alameda County
and the two school districts. If it is determined that funding will be made available, and it is an
applicable use, then more research will occur.
Fiscal Impact
The fiscal impact of these requests is unknown at this time. However, the projects identified
would likely require some level of City funds as a match or to fill funding allocation shortfalls.
Costs of attending the National League of Cities conference are included in the current City
budget.
CONCLUSION
Staff recommends that the City Council review the list of projects and prioritize them for
presentation to the City's congressional representatives for consideration in the federal FY 2012
budget.
