Overview of the Sustainable Communities Strategies [SCS] Planning Process.
Planning Manager Tom Liao gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Sustainable
Communities Strategy [SCS], and the local- regional partnership formed to address the
requirements of Califomia Senate Bill 375. SCS is a key component of SB 375, and
Mr. Liao's presentation addressed the SCS planning process, which would align
transportation, housing and land use planning. He described the City's involvement on
countywide and regional working groups; the development of an initial vision scenario;
which will be released in March 2011; the City's role in the SCS; its benefits; and next
steps in the process.
Staff responded to questions from the Council.
Councilmember Starosciak commented that there is good information on the subject
provided on the onebayarea.org website.
Community Development Director Luke Sims indicated that the SCS would be brought
back to the Council for a presentation at a future meeting or work session.
Mayor Cassidy inquired about the City's Climate Action Plan, and suggested that the
Council receive an update on the implementation of the Plan sometime in the future,
and annually thereafter.
