CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
APPROVED AND
STAFF REPORT FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
•
DATE: March 21, 2011
•
Stephen L. Hollister
TO: Stephen Hollister, City Manager City Manager
FROM: Michael Bakaldin, Public Works Director -
BY: Debbie Pollan, Facilities & Open Space Manager
SUBJECT PROJECT /PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
PRESENTATION OF SAN LEANDRO MARINA HARBOR BASIN ALTERNATIVES
STUDY
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
• This report provides information on the availability of the final San Leandro Marina Harbor
Basin Alternatives Study, which will be discussed at the City Council Work Session on March
21, 2011.
BACKGROUND
In October 2010, the City Council approved a Consultant Services Agreement with ESA for
preparation of a Harbor Basin Alternatives Study, with the cost of the report to be split evenly
with Cal -Coast Development.
The intent of the report is to assist the City in determining what types of uses would be
appropriate for the Marina Harbor Basin, should the City permanently discontinue dredging the
basin and entrance channel.
The report methodology and content was discussed and prepared over three separate
collaborative meetings between ESA, City staff and Cal - Coast. During this time frame,
preliminary concepts were brought forward and reviewed by the Shoreline - Marina Citizens
Advisory Committee (CAC), by the public at two town hall meetings held in November, and
with the City Council at a December work session.
DISCUSSION
ESA has issued the final San Leandro Marina Harbor Basin Alternatives Study. A hard copy is
available for review at the City Clerk's office. The document is also available electronically for
review or downloading via the City's website at the link shown below.
Staff will be presenting the findings from the study to the City Council at a special work session,
scheduled for 5:30 PM on Monday, March 21 in the City Council Chambers.
