Jinotega, Nicaragua <br /> 1976 City Council is approached by a San Leandro resident originally from <br /> Nicaragua and by MASCO, a Latin American cultural group, to establish <br /> Sister City relationship with Jinotega, Nicaragua. City Council Resolution <br /> 76 -135 adopted to establish the relationship. <br /> 1977 Following natural disaster in Nicaragua (possibly an earthquake), over 500 <br /> pounds of medical equipment donated by Doctor's Hospital and flown to <br /> Jinotega. <br /> No other record of contacts can be found. Carlos Almeida, a former <br /> member of the San Leandro Town Affiliation Committee, recalls that <br /> there was no further development of the association. He believes that the <br /> City of Jinotega never acknowledged the association. <br /> City of Naga, Philippines <br /> November 1989 Sister City relationship is established by City Council Resolution 89 -245 <br /> at the request of community members. Neal and Bessie Parafina were <br /> instrumental in these efforts. <br /> November 1995 Typhoon Angela strikes Philippines; Naga Relief Project established - <br /> $1,452 in cash donations, plus medical equipment and supplies sent to <br /> Naga. <br /> November 1995 Mayor Ellen Corbett visits Naga. <br /> Spring 1996 Typhoon relief supplies and cash donations sent to Naga under the title <br /> "Naga Relief Fund "; Naga officials name a street in their city after San <br /> Leandro in appreciation of the relief effort. <br /> August 1998 Naga City Councilors Adan and Felizmenio visit San Leandro. A <br /> reception is hosted by the City and the visitors are given a tour of the City. <br /> August 2000 Naga City Councilors Felizmenio and Ranola visit San Leandro. A <br /> luncheon meeting is hosted by the City for the visitors and the City <br /> Council. <br /> September 2002 Ambulance donated by American Medical Response, plus hospital <br /> furniture and medical supplies donated by local hospitals, transferred from <br /> the City to the Naga Metropolitan Society and then shipped to Naga. <br /> Naga Mayor Robredo visits San Leandro prior to shipment to <br /> ceremoniously accept the keys to the ambulance from Mayor Shelia <br /> Young <br /> September 2003 Naga Vice Mayor Abonal and City Councilors Ranola and Lavadia visit <br /> San Leandro for the Penafrancia Festival. <br /> 7 <br />
