' '.'` <br /> Farmers' Market has become a place for friends , - --- • • • •• - - ` ` <br /> and family to gather- within downtown while encouraging healthy food choices and <br /> supporting our local businesses. The community has shown tremendous support over the past <br /> three years with the average number of shoppers increasing from an average of 1,320 per <br /> week during 2008 to an average of 1,920 shoppers per week during 2010. <br /> • The City has brought together a group of business stakeholders to develop a Branding and <br /> Marketing Strategy to effectively communicate our story to those in San Leandro and those <br /> considering doing business in the community. The Placemaking Group, a marketing and <br /> communications agency, has been retained to facilitate the business working group and <br /> conduct a survey of consumers, businesses, brokers and visitors. The Placemaking Group <br /> will help to identify the City's unique brand and create a marketing strategy for the future. <br /> The business working group will meet three times over the next few months to assess the <br /> City's strengths and weaknesses, identify the important elements of San Leandro's brand and <br /> explore how the City can effectively utilize new methods of communication. <br /> • As part of continuing efforts to market retail opportunities in Downtown San Leandro, <br /> business development staff attended the International Conference of Shopping Centers <br /> (ICSC) Idea Exchange in Monterey on March 17. At this event, staff had the opportunity to <br /> meet with retailers and brokers to explore opportunities presented both by current retail <br /> vacancies and future development projects. <br /> • Work was recently completed on a successful a 'a y..,,:.w,1,,.,�,-- <br /> Commercial Rehabilitation Project at DC Dance ,.t N S 4 A . • Center on Washington Street.
