CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
APPROVED AND
STAFF REPORT FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
DATE: June 6, 2011
Stephen L. Hollister
TO: Stephen L. Hollister, City Manager City Manager
FROM: Uchenna Udemezue, Director
Engineering and Transportation epartment
BY: Kenneth Joseph, City Engine
Engineering and Transportati n Department
SUBJECT PROJECT /PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
RESOLUTION APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND CALLING FOR BIDS_
FOR THE PAR COURSE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT, PROJECT NUMBER 10- 150 -38 -322.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
This project provides for reconstruction of the asphalt concrete pathways and replacement of the
exercise equipment at the Marina Park par course.
Staff recommends approval of the plans and specifications and call for bids for the subject
project.
BACKGROUND
On March 2, 2009, the City received notice from the East Bay Regional Parks District (EBRPD)
of our eligibility for $3,740,998 in Measure WW Park Bond funds. The funds are for the
acquisition and development of neighborhood, community, and regional parks and recreation
lands and facilities. The City asked citizens for their input on how they would like the money
spent and chose to proceed with the top ten projects. The poor condition . of the asphalt
pavement, tripping hazards, and deteriorating par course exercise equipment were noted as
features that the community would like to see improved with Measure WW funding.
ANALYSIS
The condition of the asphalt at the par course has deteriorated to the point that patching is
ineffective and erosion of the path edge has created tripping hazards. The project will
reconstruct the asphalt concrete pathways, construct concrete pads for new exercise equipment,
and install new benches at intervals along the par course pathway. Some sections of the path will
be realigned and re- graded to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and to take
advantage of views of the San Francisco Bay and San Leandro Marina.
