Hollister, City Manager
FROM: Uchenna Udemezue, Director,
Engineering & Transportation
BY: Tara H. Peterson, Adminis ative Services
Manager, Engineering & ransportatig<;
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
Stephen L. Hollister
City Manager
RESOLUTION APPROVING A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH EAST BAY MUNICIPAL
UTILITY DISTRICT FOR CHABOT PARK.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the lease agreement between the City of San Leandro and East
Bay Municipal Utility District (District) for the park area at Lake Chabot Regional Recreation
Area known as Chabot Park.
The lease allows the City to continue to lease the park, as the City has since 1981, to provide
recreational services and opportunities for our citizens.
BACKGROUND
The City first entered into a License Agreement for Chabot Park with the District in 1981. Since
then, the lease has been extended a number of times. This latest agreement is for the period from
July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2016. The cost to the City for this extension is a one -time fee of $2,000.
Chabot Park, like all of our parks, is highly used by the public. It is also a "beloved" park in San
Leandro, as the Chabot Day Camp has been held there for decades.
Applicable General Plan Policy
Policy 22.09: Use long -term leases to share open space with other owners in a cost effective
manner.
