Annual Rent Review Program Evaluation (June 2010 — May 2011)
From June 2010 to May 2011, there were 28 tenant and landlord inquiries addressed by staff.
They are a slight increase from the previous year, which had 27 tenant and landlord inquiries. Of
the 27 inquiries this year, there were 13 inquiries by tenants and 15 by landlords.
There were no cases heard by the Rent Review Board this year. The Board has not convened in
over two years. Possible factors for the ongoing inactivity in Rent Review Board cases may
include that the average annual rents in the City are still at reasonable levels and below 2008 rent
levels (see Attachment A). Table 1 below provides a summary of cases reviewed by the Board
over the last five years.
Viable 1. Staff
conducts an informal, point -in -time rental survey annually based on mass circulated listings in
local and regional newspapers and on the Internet in May as displayed in Table 2 below. Table 2
displays the increases in rents in 2011 for studio, one bedroom, 2 bedroom /1 bath and 2
• bedroom /1.5 bath units, while rents for larger 2 bed /2 bath and 3 bedroom units decreased.
Table 2.
