N II -V  W li W.W f a %161 <br />MEMORANDUM <br />Date: June 2, 2011 <br />To: Business and Housing Development Committee <br />From: Steve Hollister, City Manager <br />Via: Luke Sims, Community Development Director <br />By: Cynthia Battenberg, Business Development Manager <br />Subject: REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY SUPPORT FOR SAN LEANDRO CHAMBER <br />OF COMMERCE PROPOSED BUSINESS ASSISTANCE SERVICES FOR <br />FISCAL YEAR 2011 -12 <br />The City and/or Redevelopment Agency (Agency) have supported the San Leandro Chamber of <br />Commerce (Chamber) in their business assistance efforts as far back as records are available. In <br />FY 2010 -11, up to $43,600 in Agency financial assistance was approved. For the upcoming <br />fiscal year, staff is recommending up to $41,800 in support to the Chamber for implementing <br />assistance programs that serve the business community. <br />BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS <br />The relationship between a City and a Chamber of Commerce is important for both <br />organizations. The City benefits from the Chamber representing businesses, as well as from the <br />Chamber programs which provide services and information to businesses and opportunities for <br />businesses to connect. The Chamber benefits from the financial resources which enables them to <br />offer programs and services to the business community. Attachment A includes research results <br />of sample Chamber of Commerce programs for your information. The San Leandro Chamber of <br />Commerce's proposed programs are in line with the types of programs other Chambers offer. <br />In FY 2010 -11, the Agency approved up to $43,600 in support to the San Leandro Chamber for <br />their partnership. Chamber accomplishments include three San Leandro by Design Events, the <br />launch of a new and improved website, industrial outreach including recruitment of businesses <br />for Sustainability Circles and support of the Careers in Manufacturing partnership, and the Shop <br />San Leandro First Community Fair. <br />Agency staff recommends continued support of the Chamber's business assistance efforts in FY <br />2011 -12. In total, the Agency is proposing up to $41,800 in support for the following programs. <br />• Industrial Competitiveness Grant Program marketing <br />$5,000 <br />• Careers in Industrial Technology Partnership <br />$500 <br />• Implementation of Branding & Marketing Strategy <br />$10,000 <br />• San Leandro by Design (3 events) <br />$2,500 /event <br />• Shop San Leandro First Community Fair <br />$1,300 <br />• Chamber Community Portal Website <br />$6,000 <br />• Business Success Series (2 series of four classes) <br />$5,000 /series <br />• Chamber Membership, 24 lunches & Public Service Announcements $1,500 <br />
