• •
Kathy Ornelas reported that North Field Group is continuing to discuss flight patterns and
deviations from preferred flight patterns made periodically by pilots. Environmental
planning continues for the addition of an instrument landing system for Runway 27L. The
Port hopes the FAA consultant will have a drafted Environmental Assessment ready for
public review in the fall.
The South Field Group continues to get cooperation from FedEx for the rolling take -off
procedure, and continues to study the benefits of this practice. The Group has asked the
Noise Management Forum for approval to study whether or not weather inversions could be
contributing to noise events in neighborhoods when the airport's Ground Run -up Enclosure
is being used.
The Aviation Stakeholders Advisory Committee would be meeting the week after this
Airport Committee meeting. The agenda will include discussions regarding the potential of a
third terminal being built at the airport, as well as a study of noise abatement procedure
compliance of business jet operators.
Recommendations
None
5. Public Comments
•
Francois Gallo, during the discussion of item 3, commented that it is helpful for community
members to be able to comment after each agenda item. Community members can often
bring some level of experience to the discussion, and it is important to have an exchange of
ideas and information.
Christian Valdez from the Airport Noise Office reported that there would be F -16's doing a
fly -over of the Oakland Coliseum on September 11 in advance of the Oakland Raiders
football game.
6. Committee Member Comments
Councilmember Badger said it was good news to hear that FedEx is retiring its 727 -100 jets.
He thanked Councilmember Santos and NAACSL for their efforts in this regard.
Councilmember Santos commented that the departures from Runway 9R have been
disturbing because they often fly straight out over neighborhoods, rather than making a right
turn to the Bay. He also suggested the Committee needs to continue to follow the progress of
the Stage 4 regulations and the NASA study for quieter technologies, as well as new
technologies for retrofit of engines.
7. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 10:02 a.m.
3
