• •
Kathy Ornelas reported that the Port has to cancel the December 5 meeting and asked if it
could be bumped up to November 28. Committee members agreed that November 28 was
too soon and agreed to defer to a meeting date in January.
They recommend an update on the Airport Master Plan be provided at that time, as well as a
report on NASA's progress on developing quieter jet engines.
Committee Recommendations
Request meeting dates be established for 2006 with the Port's Aviation Committee.
3. Discussion Regarding New Appointments for Representatives to North Field and South
Field Research Groups
Committee members discussed the fact that none of the citizen representatives to the North or
South Field groups had expressed a desire to be replaced. Therefore, the Committee
Members recommended that no new appointments be made at this time, and that a formal
term of appointment for existing members of both groups begin in January 2006, based on the
newly adopted guidelines for appointments to airport research groups and committees.
Committee Recommendations
Establish appointment terms for citizen representatives to the North Field and South Field
Research Groups to begin as of Januaryl, 2006.
4. North Field Group, South Field Group and Master Plan Committee Reports
North Field Group:
The North Field Group has not met since the September Airport Committee meeting; nothing
new to report.
South Field Group:
The group continues to study the effectiveness of the rolling departure procedure. FedEx has
virtually all of its nighttime departing flights using the procedure when conditions permit.
Data shows that there has been a reduction in noise levels and duration of noise events since
the procedure has been adopted by FedEx and the Air Traffic Control Tower.
Councilmember Starosciak had questions regarding the procedure data and Wayne Bryant
from the Airport Noise Office was able to answer her questions.
Master Plan Stakeholders Committee:
The next Stakeholders Committee meeting is scheduled for December 8. At that time, the
Port expects to review the drafted Master Plan. Airport Committee Members will be provided
with copies of the draft and they all agreed this should be the subject of the next Airport
Committee meeting.
2
