• •
ITEM C
SAN LEANDRO AIRPORT COMMITTEE
1. Airport Master Plan Update Discussion: See Item Al report.
2. San Leandro Report on Sound Insulation Program: Oral report from San Leandro.
3. Requesting information on any expansion plans FedEx has for operations at the
airport and on the volume of truck traffic' generated by FedEx (including other
cargo operators) operations at the airport.
Expansion of the FedEx facility at the south field of Oakland International Airport was
included in the Airport Development Program (ADP) previously approved by the Port
of Oakland. The ADP included the development of additional land adjacent to the
existing FedEx facility and reconfiguration of the existing site. Expansion elements
included additional sorting facilities, aircraft apron, truck loading/unlading areas and
parking. FedEx is currently leasing most of the area documented in the ADP and has
been underway with physical improvement to their facility. Actual cargo activity has
been significantly less than forecasted in the ADP environmental documentation.
FedEx plans to continue to improve and expand various components of their existing
facility in accordance with the approved ADP over the next several years.
As discussed in the master planning process, the Port is not forecasting significant
growth in air cargo activity. For this reason, the land use plan does not project a need
for substantial cargo facility development in the near -term land use plan. This planning
is compatible with what the Port knows regarding FedEx demand and expansion plans
at Oakland.
Members of the Oakland international Airport Master Plan Stakeholder Advisory
Committee raised the issue of conducting traffic counts in the vicinity of the airport to
understand current traffic patterns at the last Stakeholders Advisory Committee
Meeting. Port staff agreed that this could provide updated information that would be of
interest to the Community and the Port and agreed to look into developing a project to •
obtain this information and report back to the Stakeholder Advisory Committee.
With regard to cargo truck traffic in particular, it is likely a traffic count would
demonstrate fewer truck trips to the Airport in general than projected because of the
significantly less cargo activity than forecast in the ADP.
Item C 1 -3
