Discussion Regarding Scheduling Meetings with the Port of Board Commissioners
Aviation Committee for 2005
Kathy Ornelas reported on the Port of Oakland's request that the City pick dates for the three
meetings between the two agencies. The Settlement Agreement of 2000 calls for three
annual meetings between the two bodies, to take place immediately following Port Aviaiton
Committee meetings which are held Mondays at noon at Port offices. At the previous joint
meeting a suggestion was made to have one of the meetings on an evening so more public
could attend.
Committee Members suggested this item be tabled until new City Council Committee
appointments have been made for 2005.
Committee Recommendations
None
3. North Field Group, South Field Group and Master Plan Committee Reports
Kathy Omelas reported on the latest meetings of the North Field and South Field Research
Groups and the Airport Master Plan Stakeholder Committee. Copies of the letter from the
City's Master Plan committee to the Port giving recommendations for terminal development
study areas and the Port's Master Plan Progress Report were distributed.
Committee Member Santos cautioned that future expansion impacts were not being fully
considered in past planning, and growth of passenger and cargo operations may have impacts
on nearby communities in future expansions. He believes the Master Plan should consider
moving some operations to other airports.
Committee Member Nardine expressed concern regarding the projected growth of helicopter
•
operations at the airport.
Committee Member Santos asked about the citizen appointments to the North Field and
South Field Research Groups. He believes there should be discussion regarding setting new
appointments. Kathy Ornelas explained the history of the two groups. The North Field
group was initiated by the Port of Oakland in the 1990's. The Port invited citizen
representatives of San Leandro and Alameda, as well as staff from both cities, to participate.
2
