The following responses have been prepared •
by Port of Oakland Aviation Division staff for discussion purposes.
•
Item 4) Sa Leandro Committee Discussion /Questions
A. Can the joint meetings be held on a Thursday or Friday to allow all City
• Council Airport Committee members to attend?
In the past Community/Aviation Committee work sessions have been scheduled
to immediately follow the regular meeting of the Aviation Committee. This item •
will be discussed with the Board of Port Commissioners' Aviation Committee
during the September 27, 2004, meeting with the San Leandro Airport
Committee. •
B. The City Council Airport Committee would like more response from the
Port's Aviation Committee or Port staff during the meetings, rather than
just an acknowledgement of issues raised.
•
Port of Oakland representatives are happy to respond to questions and concerns
from the San Leandro Airport Committee. Whenever possible items should be
submitted to the Port in sufficient time before a scheduled meeting to allow Port
representatives to prepare responses for discussion at the meeting. Any new
items brought outside of an established schedule can be addressed in follow -up
communications.
C. The Port must make further demands on FedEx to eliminate the 727's
from its fleet using the Oakland Airport.
This item can be discussed further at September 27 meeting with the San-
Leandro Airport Committee. The Port and the Airport- Community Noise Forum
have made it very clear to FedEx on numerous occasions throughout the past
several years that we would like for them to replace their nighttime use of 727's
at OAK. The Airport is prohibited by federal law from restricting these or any
aircraft from operating at Oakland, so long as those aircraft are in compliance
with federal law. FedEx is aware of our concerns and has responded that they
• will continue to phase out these planes from their OAK operations as their fleet
mix and scheduling allows. As FedEx activity has increased at Oakland, many
727's have been replaced by Airbuses and other quieter aircraft. The Port and
