SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the Resolution authorizing the Interim City Manager to implement the NLC Prescription Discount Card Program. BACKGROUND Through the National League of Cities (NLC), the City of San Leandro can offer residents a free Prescription Discount Card that provides average savings of 20% off the retail price of prescription medications for uninsured or underinsured residents. The program is sponsored by the NLC and administered by CVS Caremark. There is no cost to the City to provide this program to residents. The NLC Prescription Discount Card Program was brought to staff's attention by Council Member Diana Souza and Senior Commission Chair Jan Woycheshin. The Senior Commission and Human Services Commission support implementation of the program. This program is offered by hundreds of cities across the country, and locally in the cities of Campbell, Hercules, Mountain View, Pleasanton, San Jose and Sunnyvale.
