NLC Prescription Discount Card 3 September 6, 2011 Can the discount card be used with other insurance benefit to further reduce costs? No, the discount card cannot be used in conjunction with other insurance. However, residents are encouraged to use the card to purchase prescriptions any time the medication is not covered by their insurance plan. Can the Prescription Discount Card be used in addition to Medicare for additional discounts? No. Residents present either their Medicare prescription plan card or Prescription Discount Card. The Prescription Discount Card should only be used when purchasing medications not covered by Medicare. Staff proposes launching the program in October. Outreach will be conducted through press release and information placed on the City website. Once approved by City Council, the City will receive a supply of discount cards equal to 10% of the population for the initial rollout. NLC /CVS will also provide monthly reports on the use of the program by residents. The program provides savings on prescription drugs to residents who are without health insurance or have prescriptions that are not covered by insurance. We hope that this new program will help residents who need relief from the high cost of prescriptions.
