Sx
i!
A' City of San Leandro
Meeting Date: December 19, 2011
00 11 . Staff Report
File Number: 11 -429 Agenda Section: CONSENT CALENDAR
Agenda Number: 8.G.
TO: City Council
FROM: Lianne Marshall
Interim City Manager /Executive Director
BY: Jacqui Diaz
Interim Assistant City Manager
FINANCE REVIEW: Not Applicable
TITLE: Staff Report for Approval of the City of San Leandro's 2012 Local Appointments
List of the Upcoming Vacancies on the City's Boards and Commissions
Staff Report for Approval of the City of San Leandro's 2012 Local Appointments List of the
Upcoming Vacancies on the City's Boards and Commissions
RECOMMENDATIONS
State law requires the posting of a Local Appointments List, to inform residents of the
upcoming vacancies on the City's boards and commissions. Staff recommends that the City
Council review and approve by motion the posting of the 2012 Local Appointments List.
BACKGROUND
California Government Code Section 54970 et seq., known as the Maddy Act, is intended to
raise the awareness of members of the community about volunteer opportunities on local
boards, commissions, and committees. It requires the City Council, by December 31 of each
year, to prepare and post a list of "...all regular and ongoing boards, commissions, and
committees which are appointed by the legislative body of the local agency ... with the name
of the incumbent appointee, the date of appointment, the date the term expires, and the
necessary qualifications for the position."
Analysis
The terms of most board and commission members terminate upon the expiration of the
regular term of the Mayor or the Councilmember representing the Councilmember district
from which the member was appointed. Thus, the terms of the members representing
Districts 2, 4, and 6 will be expiring on December 31, 2012, and those members are listed on
the 2012 Local Appointments List.
Current Agency Policies
Members with expired terms continue to serve until a successor has been appointed.
City of San Leandro Page 1 Printed on 12/13/2011
