Discussion Regarding Committee Meeting Days, Times and Frequency <br />The Committee agreed to meet the fourth Tuesday of every month from 4:30 -5:30 p.m., <br />and review its workload to determine whether to meet less frequently. <br />5. Update on Public Education and Government (PEG) Fund <br />Mr. Jang reported that about $150k in PEG funds were projected for FY 2011 -12 from <br />Comcast and AT &T, and staff projects that approximately $160 -$165k will be collected in <br />FY12 -13. The current fund balance is $190k, with $32k spent so far ($28k for <br />automating the agenda management process; $3,500 for digital recording; and $500 for <br />wiring for the U -Verse government channel). Ms. Ornelas recalled that federal law <br />previously allowed PEG funds to be used only for capital expenses, but she indicated that <br />there was proposed legislation that would relax the restrictions on the use of PEG funds. <br />Mayor Cassidy expressed concern that San Leandro does not video record its Council <br />meetings, as most other cities do. He requested that staff look into the options for <br />implementing video broadcasting of City Council meetings, and provide an update to the <br />Committee on the PEG funding balance and its eligible uses in the fall. <br />6. Update on Status of City Center Wireless Network and Implementation of Paperless <br />Agenda <br />Mr. Jang provided a status update on the City Center wireless network. The wireless <br />network controller has been installed, as well as several access points in City Hall which <br />should be operational in May. Additional equipment is being acquired to create a single <br />network connecting City Hall, South Offices and the Public Safety building. Mr. Jang <br />responded to questions from the Committee regarding use and security of the wireless <br />network. <br />iPads have been purchased for the paperless agenda implementation. Documentation is <br />being prepared, iPads will be distributed to Council and staff by late May, and training for <br />the Council will be scheduled shortly thereafter. Staff will develop a timeline and provide <br />it to the Committee at the next meeting. <br />Mayor Cassidy asked whether annotation software was available for a laptop.
