The Fire <br /> Chief, within the limits of military necessity and <br /> regulations, may determine when such leave shall be taken. <br /> Upon returning from military leave, an employee shall • <br /> provide, when applicable, copies of military release <br /> papers. <br /> section 19. Jury Duty <br /> An employee selected for and serving on a jury, will be <br /> entitled to the difference between jury duty pay and the <br /> regular daily rate of pay for each day of jury service. . <br /> Any employes required to report for jury selection on a <br /> • • scheduled work day shall return to duty as soon'as <br /> released by the court whether or not selected. <br /> As an exception to the above: <br /> (1) If you are sequestered or, for some exceptional <br /> reason, ordered by the judge to the contrary. <br /> (2) If you are both detained by the court for a minimum bf <br /> five (5) hours and are required to return to jury duty' <br /> on the following day. <br /> (3) If you are detained less than five (5) hours and are <br /> required to report for jury duty the next day, you <br /> will be released from duty at 2000 hours. <br /> • <br /> Days of jury duty and all fees paid shall be verified <br /> by the court official responsible for issuing checks <br /> in payment of jury service. Service nct paid for by <br /> the court_ is not covered by this section. <br /> Section. 20. Leave of Absence 'Without Pay <br /> A leave of absence may be granted to an employee when it <br /> would improve the quality of the employee's job <br /> • performance for the City government or when such leave is. <br /> in other ways considered to be in the best interest of the <br /> City service. This could include leave for such purposes <br /> as additional job - related education or training, :or - - <br /> extended illness not covered by accumulated sick leave. <br /> For the purposes of this section, a leave of absence is <br /> defined as a privilege which may be granted to an employee <br /> wishing to leave the City service in good standing without <br /> pay for a limited period. Such employee must make a <br /> written request to the supervisor for such leave, stating <br /> the dates of leave and return and the reason for the <br /> request. The Fire Chief must submit a written statement <br /> giving the reasons for recommending the approval of each <br /> request, after considering such factors as employee work <br /> 2 -18- <br /> • <br />
